UPC-A Barcode Generator
A twelve-digit code for retail in the US and Canada.

UPC-A is the American predecessor of EAN-13. It has the same number of bars but one fewer digit: the leading position is dropped. A scanner reads this code as an EAN-13 with a leading zero, so a checkout in Europe handles it without trouble.
The reverse does not hold: older American equipment only understands twelve digits, and EAN-13 is foreign to it. If your product is headed to the US or Canada, use UPC-A.
