Fine tuning

The empty margin around the code is how a scanner finds its edge. Without it, neighboring text or background gets in the frame and the code stops scanning. The standard requires four modules, that is four code cells.

Damage allowance: the code still scans even if part of it is worn, covered by a sticker or smudged. The higher the level, the more space the allowance takes, so with the same data the code grows in modules and each module gets smaller. If a logo is loaded, we set H ourselves: the logo covers part of the code.

The tool is free, with no sign-up and no watermarks. Use the image anywhere, including print and advertising.

No registration, no watermarks, and the generated image never expires. Print the finished code on a sign, sticker, or magazine page, use it in ads, or hand it over to a client.

The code is static: its content lives inside the image itself. It does not route through a third-party redirect service, so it will not stop working because someone's subscription ran out.

What you can encode

  • a link — we add the "https://" part automatically, otherwise the phone will show it as plain text instead of opening it;
  • Wi-Fi — the phone connects to the network from the code, no need to spell out the password for guests;
  • a vCard 3.0 contact card — name, phone, email, organization, website, and address, all added to the address book with one tap;
  • a phone number, an email with a subject line, a point on a map;
  • any text, including non-Latin characters.

Sizing for print

A code is readable from a distance of about ten times its width: a sticker scanned from half a meter away needs to be about five centimeters. Leave room for printing, because a module thinner than 0.4 mm blurs on a standard press.

Three formats to choose from

PNG is a regular image for screens, emails, and desktop printers. SVG and PDF are vector formats: the code is drawn with shapes rather than pixels, so you can scale it up to banner size without jagged edges. PDF is the one to send to a print shop, SVG fits into a designer's layout.

A permanent link to the image

Sometimes you need to embed the image rather than download it: on a website, in an email, on a forum. The "Direct link to QR code" button gives you permanent addresses for the PNG, SVG, and PDF versions.

The image at such an address never changes or disappears. We rebuild it on every request from the stored code data, and we do not accept ready-made files, so nothing but a QR code can ever appear at those addresses.

What goes to the server and what does not

While you fill in the fields and download the file, nothing goes to the server. Your Wi-Fi password and the phone number from your contact card stay on your device.

We store anything on our side in one case only: when you press the "Direct link to QR code" button yourself. Then what the code contains stays with us, along with the appearance settings, since otherwise there would be nothing to build the image from. Keep this in mind for your Wi-Fi password: anyone who scans the code from that link can see it anyway.
