PDF to TXT

Extracts text from a PDF into a TXT file: page by page, with your choice of separator and encoding, Cyrillic letters intact.

Drag a PDF file here or click to choose

Open a PDF file: the text of all pages appears in the field, where you copy it with a button or download it as a TXT file. Pages are separated by a blank line, a line with the page number, or a page break character that a printer treats as a new sheet.

Encoding of the output file

UTF-8 opens in Windows Notepad, Word, and programs for Mac and Linux. For older Windows programs, such as old versions of 1C, choose Windows-1251. Characters that this encoding lacks, emoji for example, will not appear in the file, and the page will show a warning about it.

When there is no text

If a PDF is built from images, a scanned document for example, it has no letters, only pictures of pages. A recognition program extracts text from such a file, and the page will tell you about it. Line order in a PDF with complex layout, columns for example, may differ from how your eye reads it.

The reverse task, making a PDF from a text file, is on the TXT to PDF page.
