Outside the circle the photo becomes transparent, so the file is saved as PNG or WebP.

Ratio and document requirements
Only the ratio is set here, that is, the shape of the frame. Each document has its own requirements for the photo itself: how large the face should be, what background it needs, whether corners and margins are required. Those requirements are checked wherever you submit the photo. For a 3 × 4 cm print at 300 dots per inch, you need a 354 × 472 pixel image: that size is set with cropping to an exact size.
