Word Scrambler

Shuffles words, letters, lines, sentences, or paragraphs.

What to shuffle

Paste your text or upload a file, choose what to shuffle — words, letters within words, lines, sentences, or paragraphs — and press the button. You can copy the result or download it as a file.

Separators stay in place

Only the pieces themselves get moved. Spaces, indents, line breaks, and empty lines stay where they were: lines of a list don't merge with their neighbors, and paragraphs don't collapse into one. By default, a word stays in its own line; with a checkbox, it stays within its own sentence. This matters for "build a sentence" exercises: otherwise you can't tell which words belonged together.

Fair shuffling

The order comes from the Fisher–Yates algorithm running on the browser's random numbers, with no bias toward the top of the list. When there are at least two different pieces, the original order never comes back: a shuffle that changes nothing looks like a bug.

Letters within words can also be shuffled on a separate page: that mode is open right away, and the example shows a list of words.
