Why a photo opens sideways or upside down
When you take a picture, your phone saves a note in the file about how the camera was held, but leaves the image itself as it was captured. Galleries and messengers read that note, while some programs and websites ignore it, so the photo appears sideways or upside down. This tool reads the note when the file opens, and the finished file has every pixel already in place, so the photo looks the same everywhere.
