Unicode has mathematical alphabets: complete sets of Latin letters in bold, italic, fraktur, script, double-struck, sans-serif, and monospace styles. Each letter in these sets is a separate character, so it travels into any text field along with the rest of your text.
The sets have gaps: some letters were added to Unicode earlier than the rest and sit elsewhere. The place of the capital B in the script set is empty; the letter itself lives separately as "ℬ". Such spots are filled in by hand, because otherwise a blank box would appear instead of the letter.
