Remove Spaces Before Punctuation

Removes spaces before a comma, period, ellipsis, closing quote or bracket and adds a space after the mark. Leaves links, numbers and emoji alone.

What to do with the spaces

The space gets pulled toward the comma, period, exclamation mark, question mark, colon, semicolon, ellipsis, and closing quote and parenthesis. A run of punctuation marks counts as one spot: before a pair like "?!" the space disappears in front of the first mark, and the pair itself stays together.

If there is no space after the mark, the tool adds one: "Hello, world" turns into "Hello, world", and "End.Start" becomes "End. Start". Spaces inside quotes and brackets get cleaned up as well: " Yes " becomes "Yes", and ( like this ) turns into (like this).

What stays untouched

Links, email addresses, numbers, dates, times, and letter abbreviations are left alone: a period inside a URL needs no space after it, or the link would stop working. Smileys stay as they are: ":)" and ": )" will not turn into a colon followed by a bracket. Below the result, a number shows how many times an exception saved a piece of text.
