Website Traffic Calculator

Calculates monthly and daily site traffic, average and peak bandwidth in Mbit/s, and, in reverse, how many visitors a hosting plan can handle.

Monthly traffic equals visitors multiplied by page views per visit and by page weight. A view stays a view: 10,000 visitors with 5 pages each give 50,000 views and 100 GB at a page weight of 2,000 KB. Some calculators multiply the visitors by the views a second time and overstate the answer by a factor of thousands.

Daily traffic comes from dividing by the average month length of 30.436875 days (365.2425 calendar days over 12 months). Bandwidth is measured as 1,000,000 bits per second, the way hosting plans state it.

Hosting counts a gigabyte as 1,000,000,000 bytes, while the operating system's file properties count 1,073,741,824. The same data comes out as 100 GB or 95.37 GiB, a difference of about 7 percent. The switch picks the system once for both the page weight and the answer.

Bandwidth is chosen by peak load. Visits spread unevenly across the day, so the calculation takes a share of the daily traffic and the number of hours it falls on. With 80 percent over 8 hours, the peak bandwidth is twice the average.

The reverse calculation shows how many visitors a plan can support. There are two limits, monthly traffic and peak-hour bandwidth, and the calculator takes the smaller one. The other limit is shown next to it, so you can see which one you hit first.
