Excel to JSON

Converts an Excel (.xlsx) worksheet into an array of JSON objects, keeping numbers, dates and boolean values.

Excel workbook
Drag a .xlsx file here or click to choose one. Up to 50 MB, the file is not sent to a server

Open an .xlsx workbook and pick a worksheet. The first non-empty row of the sheet gives the field names, and every row after it becomes a JSON object.

What the values look like

Numbers and boolean values are written as numbers and true or false, and text as a string. Excel stores dates as numbers, so a date is recognized by the cell format and written as 2026-09-17, and a time as 10:30:00. For a formula, the tool takes the value that Excel calculated.

Duplicate column names

A JSON object cannot have two fields with the same name. A second column named "Sum" gets the name "Sum_2", and a column with no name gets a letter, the same as in Excel. Old-format .xls workbooks are not read: save such a workbook as .xlsx first.
