What is the code of a non-Latin letter

The ASCII table has 128 characters with codes from 0 to 127: Latin letters, digits, punctuation marks, and control characters such as a line feed. It has no room for other alphabets, so the code of a Cyrillic letter depends on the encoding. The letter "П" has Unicode number 1055; in UTF-8 it takes two bytes, 208 159, and in windows-1251 a single byte, 207. For Latin letters and digits all three variants give the same number.

An emoji also has a single Unicode number; for the thumbs-up sign it is 128077. In UTF-8 such a character takes four bytes, and in windows-1251 it cannot be written at all.

How to enter codes

Separate codes with spaces, commas, or line breaks; the prefixes 0x, 0b, and 0o are allowed. A whole number counts as one code: "1055" in decimal will not turn into 105 and 5. A code that does not fit the selected system or encoding is named by the converter, which does not try to guess.

Bytes in hexadecimal and binary notation can be left unseparated: 48656C6C6F is read two digits at a time and gives "Hello". The notation П is used by escaping special characters for HTML.
